AquaMax reactor
High quality reactor!
Comes with premium parts including thick plastic screw-clamp type lid and hose guides.
I needed a reactor for phosphate-reducing media which I was using simply with a mesh bag in the sump drain compartment. Local reef shop worker mentioned a reactor was needed to get the full benefit of the ROWA I was running. Did research as usual and landed on this AquaMax unit for the price I wanted to pay. Remembering I had a spare nano return pump at the house, I thought wow, there it is! No need to tap into the main reef tank return pump for flow.
The main reason I bought this was to save space with its ability to hang on the edge of the sump, which is what I did, seeing my sump was already maximized with refugium, skimmer, and bio-media in the drain chamber.
The results?
Phosphates started out at 0.38 ppm using the Hanna ULR phosphate checker before the reactor addition.
2-3 weeks after reactor addition the phosphates are now at a comforting, for me, 0.16 ppm.
No comparison to mesh bag. Reactors do their job at a concentrated level.
My tank:
60-gallon cube
17-gallon eshopps sump
Heavily-stocked with 12 fish including Scopas tang, dwarf angel, etc., clean-up crew consisting of many hermit crabs, emerald crab, cleaner shrimp, and snails. 60+ corals.
Ph: 8.2
Nitrate: 11.2 ppm
Phosphates: 0.16 ppm
Alkalinity: 9.6 DKh all-day
